Choosing a Route:
Bealach a Roghnú:
The Thurles Bypass will connect the N62 North (Templemore Road) to the N62 South (Horse & Jockey Road), bypassing the town.
North Tipperary County Council has engaged the Mid West National Road Design Office to assist them in:
- Identifying obstacles or constraints to the proposed scheme.
- Recommending a route corridor for the new roadway.
- Identifying land required for the scheme.
- Managing the process in line with the requirements of the NRA’s National Roads Project Management Guidelines, phases 2, 3 and 4.
The following steps will be involved in selecting the route:
Constraints Study
A Constraints Study is carried out to determine any physical, procedural, legal, environmental or heritage constraints that could affect the design, or delay progress, or influence the cost of the scheme.
Route Selection
In this phase, a number of possible alternative routes are identified, these are assessed and shortlisted and a preferred route corridor is selected based on Engineering, Environmental and Economic criteria.
Preliminary Design / Compulsory Purchase Order / Environmental Impact
A specimen design will be completed to allow the Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) to be prepared, and for the Environmental Impacts to be assessed.
The scheme is presently at Route Selection stage.
