The scheme is located on the N20 national Primary Route between Limerick and Cork. The scheme commences in the townland of Garranroe and terminates in the townland of Anhid East.
The scheme includes the construction of:

6.1 Kilometres of wide 2 lane single carriageway
- 3 bridges, including one spanning the river Maigue
- 3 junctions
- culverting of all streams
- service diversions and accomodation works
Construction work commenced in August 1999 and the road was officially opened by Minister Willie O'Dea,
T.D. on 12th July 2001. The main contractor for the project was Coffey Construction Ltd.
The project was designed by the Mid West National Road Design Office with the three bridges being designed by Michael Punch & Partners, Consulting Engineers.
