Public Information Sessions: 8th March 2000, GreenHills Hotel

  • 120 people attended a public information session held in the Greenhills Hotel, Ennis Road, Limerick for two days on 7th and 8th March 2000.
  • Maps of the study area, ordnance survey maps showing land-ownership, orthophotography maps of the study area and national routes maps of the region were displayed at the public information sessions.
  • An information leaflet and questionnaire was distributed.
  • Issues of local concern raised at the information sessions:-
    • Perceived severance at Coonagh village
    • Land ownership and planning permissions
    • Boating interests on the Shannon
    • Commercial use of the Shannon
    • Options for traffic to bypass Limerick City
    • Types of river crossing (i.e. high level bridge, tunnel, low level bridge, etc.)
  • Everyone who attended agreed in principle that there is a need for the Southern Ring Road Phase II.
  • Other issues raised by the public included:
    • Foynes Yacht Club
    • Reed harvesting during construction of a river crossing
    • Cycle lanes
    • Visual impacts of a high level bridge
    • Traffic congestion at Coonagh roundabout and the roundabout at Shannon Bridge
